About Beth & Mango

WE GIVE THANKS,...

We can’t go without acknowledging some very special people in our lives,...

Mango Thanks,...

My rescuer, my original saviour, Tip Burrows.  Tip is the Executive Director of the Humane Society of Grand Bahama, but she will always be “my Auntie Tip”.  In my very beginnings she was the one who kept me safe and alive at the shelter and made my eventual adoption possible.  I am forever grateful to her and Thank her from the bottom of my Potcake heart on behalf of the literally thousands of other Grand Bahamian souls she has saved.  I love you Auntie Tip!

Beth Thanks,...

The transition of Ann Savoy’s Country Kennels into Mango Spaw has been a great thing - for Ann’s existing clients, and for us.  What a wonderful thing to share with a dear friend.  We have always kept that first.  And everything has flowed from it.  I thank you Ann Savoy for your trust and support and am so privileged to get to share this with you.

The very idea of Mango Spaw would not have had a chance to become a reality without the inspiration and motivation of Wendy Bennett.  My friend, my sister of the heart, the one who makes so many people around her better than they know they can be.  Your ongoing support and mentoring means everything, I couldn’t do it without you.

Not everyone is so fortunate in life to have a partner to share it with who accepts you and loves you no matter what crazy things you do.  I am that fortunate to have a husband who I truly believe would say - Okay, sure - no matter what I did and find a way to help me in every way he could.  Thank you Ralph for your support in this venture like you support me in everything I do, you mean the world to me.

Mango Spaw is owned and operated by Beth Hatfield.

Beth has been involved in dogs throughout her adult life, primarily as a breeder of purebred CKC registered Labrador Retrievers under the Naiad prefix, and providing decades of ongoing support and consultation.  She has had the opportunity to experience extensive canine group dynamics and behaviour in a shelter environment in the Bahamas and assisted in education, training, behavioural consultations, field spay and neuter clinics.

Beth is a member is the Canadian Kennel Club, New Brunswick Kennel Club, Labrador Retriever Club of Canada, Board member of the Atlantic Labrador Retriever Club.

WHO is Mango?

Mango is the name of our inspiration for this venture. She is a rescue dog, a “Potcake”,

from the Bahamas and came from a lowly beginning, living on the streets of Freeport on Grand Bahama Island. She found her way to the shelter as a puppy after being live trapped by shelter staff while foraging for food.  She and Beth met and somehow, through the hundreds of little faces looking for attention, they found each other.  The rest, as they say, is history.

Mango has now moved to Canada and is taking this country by storm!  She has a new group of friends in her big BEAR Bernese that kept her warm that first Winter as she had NEVER seen snow or cold like this....even in the house.

Anyone who knows Mango knows how special she is.  It seems only natural to centre our theme around her.

She does epitomize our philosophy, our mantra which is -

                      stay . play . relax

because any proper Bahamian excels at playing and relaxing!
